Bailouts

18 February 2009

So we’re bailing out the banks that made bad decisions and got themselves into trouble, the car makers that made bad decisions and got themselves into trouble, and now the mortgage borrowers who made bad decisions and got themselves into trouble.

If you gave a dog a biscuit every time he pissed on your carpet, what do you think would happen?

Seeds for 2009

15 February 2009

Seeds and plants ordered so far for the 2009 vegetable garden, and a few things for the yard outside the garden. I’m gonna be working my butt off this summer.

It really strikes me how many different squashes we have, and we don’t even have any summer squash yet. We’re really going to have to have a strategy for the squash bugs.

Chimney Sweeping

9 February 2009

We’ve burned about as much firewood to this point as we did all last Winter, so yesterday I took advantage of the warm weather to check out the condition of the class-A (metal) chimney. I swept it out and got maybe a cup of gunk down in the woodstove. The screen at the top was pretty gunky and probably restricting the draft to an extent, but not too bad overall. It surely could have made it to the end of the Winter without any problem, but I’m still glad I got up there to clean it out. Although I still hate going up there…it would be too easy to make one slip and fall.
