Annual To-Do List

After the Spring/Summer of 2012, everything on this list concerning planting dates is suspect.

  • January
    • Clean chimney on a warm day
  • February
    • 1st: Put ad in Craigslist offering to grow organic tomato seedlings
  • March
  • April
    • 1st: Plant most seedlings inside
    • 15th: Plant potatoes outside
    • 20th: Plant collards, kale outside
  • May
    • 1st: Plant chard, beets outside
    • 15th: Plant most seeds outside
    • 20th: Plant tomatoes outside. Plan to mulch heavily, stake or suspend to keep them off the ground.
  • June
    • 1st: Finish planting!
  • July
    • 15th: Plant Fall garden
  • August
    • As crops finish up in garden, plant green manures
  • September
    • As crops finish up and it becomes too late for green manure crops, dig as much organic matter into the soil as possible.
    • Clean chimney and remove screen.
  • October
    • 1st: Seal up cracks in foundation or cement
    • 15th: store some topsoil inside for planting seedlings in the Spring
    • 20th: Seal some windows with tape and/or foam
    • Stack hay bales around active compost pile.
  • November
    • 10th: Replace stored gasoline
  • December
    • 1st: Plan next year’s garden
